Sensational Southern MD Special!

Join us as we travel northeast, passing the Rappahannock River and then the Potomac River into beautiful Southern Maryland. This scenic area, away from any Washington traffic, includes a visit to one of Maryland few islands, St. Clement’s Island State Park (pictured above).  This morning, we will arrive at St. Clement’s Island Museum, site of Maryland’s First Colonial Landing in 1634. Learn about the voyage of the Ark and the Dove, the first settlement, and about the crabbing, fishing and oystering industries in this area.  Then hop aboard their water taxi for a ride over to the island for a guided tour. The tour is along a walking trail that is one mile long, round trip (there are benches along the way, or you are welcome to opt out of the walk and wait at the pavilion by the dock). A stop will be made at the Blackistone Island Lighthouse (if interested, you can walk up to the top for great views). The lighthouse tower is inside the two-story brick keeper’s cottage. The 40-foot tower extends for the center of the roofline. The original lighthouse was built in 1851, with the replica completed in 2008. It will be open just for our group!

Travel into Leonardtown, for a lunch at The Front Porch, a local favorite, followed by an afternoon at Suttler Post Farm. Here you will discover the magnificent Southern Maryland Clydesdales Horses on an immersive farm tour. Meet these “gentle giants” up close, learn about their care, and enjoy time in their gift shop. We are sure their Dalmatian farm dog would like to say hello!
