Set Sail on the Schooner Alliance!
There is nothing like getting out on the water – especially looking up at the white sails of a tall ship. Set sail with us and Yorktown Sailing Charters as board the Schooner Alliance in Yorktown and cruise down the York River on a 1 ½ hours sightseeing cruise. Immerse yourself in 300 years of history as you pass the Revolutionary Battlefield where our country won our independence, the Victory Monument along the banks of the river, 18th Century homes, and hopefully you’ll spot dolphins and osprey. See up-close and learn about the Coleman Memorial Bridge, one of the only fully functioning double span, swinging bridges in the world.
But first we are going to start our maritime themed day in Newport News at the impressive The Mariners’ Museum, one of the largest maritime museums in the country! The Museum is filled with fascinating stories, captured in priceless artifacts that celebrate the spirit of the open sea. Explore small craft from around the world, discover intricate ship models, and encounter maritime art throughout each of the galleries. Enjoy a guided, highlights tour while here will a chance to see the famous USS Monitor, the Civil War Iron clad ship that was brought out of the water in 2002 and is going through extensive conservation at this museum. Lunch is included in Newport News at the Crab Shack on the James Restaurant, located right on the James River. Every seat offers a water view! Crab Cake Sandwich will be on the menu!
