DAY TOURS
Homes, Heritage, & History
Leesburg & Waterford, VA
Friday – October 2, 2020
Spend the morning at one of northern Virginia’s most historic homes. In its 240-year history, Morven Park’s Mansion transformed from a modest fieldstone house into the impressive Greek Revival building we see today. From 1903 – 1942, the mansion was home to Westmoreland Davis, Governor of Virginia.
Enjoy a guided tour through the home, followed by time to visit the adjacent Carriage Museum, featuring a unique collection of antique coaches, carriages and sleds. Morven Park is also a 1000-acre Equestrian Center, and the week of our visit they are hosting an International Horse Competition; there is a good chance to see horses in action!
Enjoy lunch in Historic Leesburg, followed by travel to quaint Waterford, Virginia, a National Landmark Village, for their famous Waterford Fair, celebrating 76 years! The landmark designation was made in recognition of the town’s well-preserved 18th and 19th-century architecture and landscape.
Tour many historic homes, only open during the Fair, and explore the wealth of traditional arts and crafts that will be on display throughout the village. Walking involved
