As part of Arlington National Cemetery 150th anniversary commemoration, Arlington Cemetery has provided a series of narrated tours that explore Arlington’s rich history. Tours will include transportation around the cemetery, a speaker, and a narrator from the Arlington National Cemetery History Office. Today’s tour is entitled: Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States and there are approximately 400 Medal of Honor recipients buried at Arlington.

This tour will cover the story of American conflicts through the valor of Medal of Honor recipients. A Prime Rib Dinner is included tonight at Ft. Myer Officers’ Club followed by the Evening Parade at the Marine Barracks. The feeling of patriotism continues with this one hour and fifteen-minute performance of music and precision marching, featuring “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, “The Commandant’s Own,” The United States Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon. As the “Oldest Post of the Corps,” Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., established in 1801, has performed military reviews and ceremonies since its founding.
